When Dan and I were first dating, I wanted to make his first birthday that we celebrated together something special. I knew he wasn't one for big parties or things like that. I did know that his love language was words of affirmation, though. I spent a good month trying to figure out what to do for him or what to get him and I didn't get my idea until the night before his birthday. We got out of church for our Wednesday night service and I made a pit stop at Walmart before heading home. I had seen this idea on Pinterest to take a deck of cards and write on each one a different reason why you love your husband (or wife, sister, mother, father, brother, second cousin twice removed on your great aunt's stepfather's side, etc). I wanted to make this something that I could add to throughout the years so instead of getting a deck of cards, I bought index cards. I also bought some metal rings to use as binders so it made a type of book he could flip through. |
I got home that night, gathered all of my supplies and got to work. It took me a few hours between filling out as many index cards as I could, switching between different colored sharpies, drawing little pictures on certain cards, punching all the holes in them and finally finding a little bag and tissue paper to put them in. It was around 12:30 AM when I was completely done.
I wanted to surprise Dan with the gift, but I wanted to do it in a different way. So instead of going to sleep, I drove down the road to his house and put the bag on the drivers seat of his car. I knew he would be up and going to work early that morning so I was confident he would find it and be able to enjoy it. He did find it and loved it. To this day I will take an index card or two and write a note on it and put them someplace where he will find them so he can add them to his book. I titled it "Here Are Just A Few Reasons Why I Love You".
