Buttermilk Cubes

Dan and I do not like to waste things so we are constantly finding new ways to use up leftovers in the fridge. Buttermilk was one of those ingredients that we used, but never seemed to use quick enough. It would go bad before we used it all and we stopped buying it for a long while because of that. One day while browsing Pinterest, I came across someone who used an ice cube tray to freeze the left over buttermilk. I was inspired and decided to give it a try! It worked marvelously and I plan to keep doing it!

Begin by measuring out how much will fit in each compartment of the tray. My tray held 2 tablespoons in each.

Fill the entire tray and stick it in the freezer until completely frozen.

Pop them out and store them in a zip lock bag in the freezer until you need them! They will last up to 3 months. I wrote on my bag how much each cube was and a few basic measurements.
It is as simple as that! When you know you will use some, take it out of the freezer and let how much you will need thaw and then use it like normal! They thaw quickly, so set the desired amount in a bowl on the counter for a bit and pretty soon you will be ready to go! If you need it fast, you can place them in a smaller bag and place that bag in some hot water.
