Since Dan and I moved, we have not seen my side of the family other than through Skype. My older sister's birthday was coming up and I wanted to do something for her to show her I love her and let her know I was thinking of her. So I bought her some light switch covers. I know, it was very generous of me. Actually, it was what I put ON the light switch covers that made them special; that is where Pinterest came in.
I am a Harry Potter fan and I am constantly looking up Harry Potter facts and other fun things on Pinterest related to the series. I have a board just for it =) I had been seeing these light switch covers people had made where the top says "Lumos" (the spell to make light come from the tip of your wand) and the bottom says "Nox" (the spell to put the light out, or the counter spell to Lumos). Upon further examination I found other Harry Potter related light switch covers with different sayings and quotes. I thought that would be the perfect gift, so I followed the links to find out how to make them. Most of them took me to Etsy where I could just buy them, but I finally found a few that gave a tutorial. I was slightly disappointed when all the tutorials called for Modge Podge, printing off the image, cutting it to fit the cover and so on. I was apparently feeling lazy because I decided to just take a sharpie to the covers themselves and leave them in a place to dry.
I started by taking a sharp pencil and gracing the surface of the switch covers to get the letters the right size and the right placement. Then I took the sharpie over the top of that and let it dry. For doing minimal work I am quite proud of how they came out and my sister loved them!
